Software Developer

Location: Farnborough, UK
Work Pattern: Full-time, Onsite
Department: Software Engineering

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer (Leadership) to join our software engineering team at our Farnborough facility. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will support a team of software engineers in the development of software products and solutions, providing guidance, code reviews, and technical mentorship while contributing to the execution of our software engineering strategy.

You will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a team of software engineers in the development of software products and solutions, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and hands-on support
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, ensuring the successful delivery of software projects on time and within scope
  • Assist in the professional growth and mentorship of team members through regular feedback, coaching, and career development planning
  • Contribute to the execution of the software engineering strategy, participating in strategic discussions and technology assessments
  • Manage project tasks and assignments, helping to prioritize and plan work to meet project goals and deadlines
  • Monitor project timelines, resource allocation, and budgets to ensure efficient project execution
  • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, working to resolve issues as they arise
  • Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team
  • Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions to maintain code quality and best practices
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and professional experience)
  • Minimum 6+ years of relevant work experience in software engineering and development
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a similar technical leadership or mentoring role
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming with hands-on experience in production environments
  • Strong proficiency in Linux operating systems (system administration, kernel knowledge, or application development)
  • Proficiency in Python programming with experience in real-world projects
  • Strong programming and debugging skills across multiple languages
  • Demonstrated experience with software development methodologies and best practices (e.g., Agile, Scrum, CI/CD)
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a technical leadership role

Desirable Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant certifications or training (e.g., Agile/Scrum Master, cloud certifications)
  • Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience with software architecture and design patterns
  • Knowledge of security best practices and secure coding principles
  • Experience with embedded systems or systems programming

Security Clearance

UK Security Clearance (SC) eligibility is mandatory for this role.

Candidates Must Be

  • Sole UK nationals (no dual nationality)
  • Holders of a valid British passport
  • Continuously resident in the UK for the past 5 years
