Senior Java Developer – RTGS2 Programme
Location: Leeds / London (Hybrid)
SC Clearance Required
We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a key technology programme supporting a critical financial services environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on developer who enjoys working collaboratively within a high-performing engineering team and contributing to the ongoing development and support of a major enterprise application.
The successful candidate will join a working group responsible for delivering quality software solutions, supporting the RTGS2 application environment, and contributing to continuous improvement across the platform.
Location & Working Pattern
- Leeds-based candidates: lower end of the rate range
- London-based candidates: higher end of the rate range
- Hybrid working model with approximately 50% onsite attendance required
- Active SC Clearance required

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support Java-based enterprise applications
- Contribute to the delivery of robust, scalable software solutions
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Support and enhance the RTGS2 application environment
- Participate in Agile delivery practices and continuous improvement initiatives
- Produce high-quality, maintainable code and support production services
Essential Technical Skills
- Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years’ proven commercial experience with:
- Java
- Spring Boot
- Oracle PL/SQL
- Kafka
- Hibernate
- Gradle
- Proven experience delivering and supporting production-grade applications
- Strong ownership, organization, and self-motivation
- A commitment to continuous learning and improvement
Desirable Skills
- Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
- Karate testing framework
- OpenShift
- Jenkins / CI-CD pipelines
- React
- Redux / Redux Saga
- Control-M scheduling
- Agile delivery environments (particularly SAFe)
- Banking or financial services experience

The Ideal Candidate
You will be someone who:
- Takes a proactive, can-do approach
- Works effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Is comfortable learning complex applications and technical domains
- Has strong engineering discipline and attention to quality
- Can demonstrate ownership from development through to production support
Financial services experience is beneficial, but we are also interested in strong engineers who can demonstrate the required technical capability and the ability to quickly understand complex systems.
