Salary Band: £34,700 - £44,167 (LC2)
About the Role
In this role, you will develop and support software solutions to meet the needs of the Newcastle Building Society (NBS) Group.
You are responsible for:
- Developing high-quality software through independent work and collaboration with a team.
- Analysing business requirements, designing and specifying program changes.
- Coding solutions and providing implementation and post-implementation support within agreed timeframes, procedures and standards.
- Playing a key role in the development of systems requirements within the NBS Group.
Key tasks include:
- Contributing to the analysis, design, and specification of new and existing system changes.
- Supporting system implementation, communication of changes, and ongoing support and maintenance of systems.
About You
- Education: Degree level or equivalent in a related technical or computer science subject.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong foundation in technical programming, including:
- Program design
- Coding in relevant languages
- Working with framework environments
- Applying design patterns
- Advantageous but not essential:
- Familiarity with production platforms (e.g., IBMi and Microsoft .Net)
- Understanding of databases, applications, and the financial services domain
- Strong foundation in technical programming, including:
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving, initiative, and analytical thinking.
- Well-organised, methodical, and able to plan and prioritise workload while managing multiple tasks.
- Effective communication—schedule collaborating in team environments.
- Risk-aware and focused on quality assurance, including thorough testing.
- Self-motivated, committed to continuous improvement, and open to change.

Desirable Experience:
- Previous experience in a junior development role.
- Exposure to Scrum or Agile, multi-disciplinary settings.
- Experience with technologies used by the Newcastle Building Society, including a managed risk culture.
