Job Description

About the Role

In this role you will develop and support software solutions to meet the needs of the Newcastle Building Society (NBS) Group. You are responsible for developing high quality software through working both independently and as part of a team. You will work with colleagues to analyse business requirements, design and specify program changes, code the solutions and provide implementation and post implementation support as required within agreed timeframes, procedures and standards.

You are expected to play a key role in the development of systems requirements within the NBS Group. You will contribute to the analysis, design and specification of new and existing system changes.

You will play a supporting role in system implementation, communication of changes, ongoing support and maintenance of systems

About You

You should be educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a related subject. Bringing a solid foundation in technical programming, including program design, coding in relevant languages, working with framework environments, and applying design patterns. While not essential, knowledge of production platforms used by the NBS Group, such as IBMi and Microsoft .Net, would be advantageous, alongside an understanding of databases, applications, and the wider financial services domain.

You are a strong problem solver who uses initiative and analytical thinking to develop effective software solutions. Well-organised and methodical, you can plan and prioritise your workload while managing multiple tasks concurrently. You communicate clearly and effectively, enabling you to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. You demonstrate an awareness of risk, considering potential impacts in your work, and maintain a strong focus on quality assurance by ensuring accuracy, attention to detail, and thorough testing of your own solutions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
