Software Developer (Inside IR35)

On behalf of the Met Office we are looking for a Software Developer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. Hybrid working with occasional travel to Exeter.

Main Responsibilities

As a Software Developer your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications that support operational needs.
  • Design, code and test, software applications according to specifications and standards.
  • Fix faults following agreed procedures and carry out agreed maintenance tasks on infrastructure.
  • Effectively document all work using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
  • Work on more complex integration as part of a wider team.
  • Prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so.
  • Offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to use.

Essential Requirements

  • An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.)
  • Good demonstrable knowledge of Python, Terraform and AWS.
  • Experience in the design, development and maintenance of software applications that support operational needs.
  • Ability to design, code and test, software applications according to specifications and standards.
  • Ability to fix faults following agreed procedures and carry out agreed maintenance tasks on infrastructure.
  • Able to effectively document all work using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
