Jewellery Quarter Bullion – Software Developer

Location: Birmingham, Remote first
Contract: Full time, permanent contract (37.5 hours per week)
Salary: competitive salary depending on experience

Role Overview

We're looking for a Software Developer to join our growing Technology team.

Reporting to the Head of Software Development, you'll design, build and maintain high-quality software across our e-commerce platforms and internal systems. You'll work closely with frontend teams, QA and fellow developers to deliver reliable, scalable software that supports a high-volume online business.

This is a hands-on role where you'll contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle, helping to deliver new features, improve existing systems and solve technical challenges that have a real commercial impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain high-quality software applications
  • Build new functionality across customer-facing websites and internal business systems
  • Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code
  • Troubleshoot, debug and resolve software issues
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to development best practice
  • Work closely with frontend teams, QA and business stakeholders, including the senior leadership team, to deliver new features
  • Optimise application performance, scalability and reliability
  • Support software deployments and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing systems and development processes
  • Stay up to date with modern development tools, frameworks and technologies

Skills & Experience

  • Commercial experience as a Software Developer or Software Engineer
  • Strong experience developing with Python (or a comparable language)
  • Experience building web applications and APIs with Django (or a comparable framework)
  • Experience working with SQL databases
  • Experience using Git version control
  • Understanding of software architecture and object-oriented programming principles
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively within an Agile development environment
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines (desirable)
  • Experience with Docker or containerisation (desirable)
  • Experience working within an e-commerce environment (desirable)
