Robotics Developer – Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) Group, HMRC
About the Role
As a Robotics Developer, you will design, build, and support robotic automation solutions using NICE Real Time Designer within an Agile DevOps team. You will play a critical role in developing high-quality, automatable solutions that enhance HMRC’s tax systems, expand system capabilities, and deliver measurable cost savings.
This hands-on Development and Maintenance role focuses on building, testing, and scaling robust automation solutions, as well as proactively monitoring and resolving issues in live services. Successful candidates will help mentor junior colleagues, developing the telecom infrastructure across HM Revenue & Customs.
Key Responsibilities
Core Development Tasks
- Design and implement high-quality robotic automation solutions to meet business needs
- Develop clean, secure, and well-tested code, adhering to modern software development best practices
- Collaborate with Agile teams to estimate, plan, and deliver user stories and technical tasks
- Contribute to engineering standards and continuous improvement
- Support live services through monitoring, observability, and incident resolution
Technical and Operational Role
- Implement test-driven development (TDD), unit testing, and version control (Git)
- Work with SQL databases, APIs, and web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, C#)
- Process knowledge of performance, accessibility, and security testing
- Assist and mentor junior developers, providing coaching and professional growth opportunities
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Criteria
You must be able to demonstrate the following:
✔ Practical experience building automation solutions using NICE (Robotics Process Automation) or a similar tool ✔ Agile development experience in a software-development environment ✔ Experience applying continuous integration (CI) practices, including:
- Unit testing
- Test-driven development
- Version control (Git) ✔ Knowledge of testing methodologies including performance, accessibility, and security testing ✔ Experience in supporting and maintaining live systems, using observability/monitoring tools for troubleshooting ✔ Ability to solve complex technical problems and improve workflows
Desirable (but not mandatory) Experience
✅ Advanced proficiency in NICE Robotics Process Automation ✅ Working with SQL databases ✅ API integration into robotic services ✅ Familiarity with continuos delivery principles ✅ Proficiency in HTML, JavaScript, SQL, or C#
Location Details
Please note that offering eligibility is limited to the location you select on the application. Paralegals:
- Newcastle: Must relocate from Benton Park View to Pilgrims Quarter
- Telford: Must relocate from Telford Plaza to Parkside Court
- Salford: Must relocate from Trinity Bridge House to an alternative office in Manchester/Salford
- Leeds: Courses are available for a transitional adjustment if applying from Bradford colleagues (check HMRC's eligibility policy).
