About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to join Raytheon’s dynamic team, supporting critical defense training initiatives. This role is based in Warminster, Wiltshire, with a hybrid working model that combines on-site presence and remote work flexibility. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and integrating innovative software solutions that enhance the British Army’s collective training capabilities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to national defense by building scalable, secure, and cloud-native applications that support the Army’s strategic objectives. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including technical leads, architects, and engineers, to deliver resilient systems that meet rigorous security and performance standards. The role requires a proactive approach, a passion for technology, and a commitment to excellence in delivering impactful software solutions in a high-stakes environment.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a minimum of five years of experience in full-stack software development, with proficiency in modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular, and backend technologies including Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or .NET Core/.NET 5+. Strong experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes is essential. Candidates must have proven expertise in deploying and managing cloud-native applications on platforms like AWS, Azure, or MODCloud (OCP). Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps, along with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, is required. Additionally, experience with static and dynamic code analysis tools, RESTful API development, and security standards such as OWASP and NIST is highly desirable. Candidates should hold or be eligible to obtain security clearance (SC clearance) and demonstrate excellent communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to prioritize complex tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Build secure, high-performance backend services utilizing languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, or.NET Core/.NET 5+, ensuring scalability and robustness.
  • Integrate APIs, databases, and third-party services to facilitate seamless data exchange and system interoperability.
  • Develop and maintain intuitive frontend interfaces using modern frameworks like React or Angular to enhance user experience.
  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable cloud-native solutions, leveraging services from AWS, Azure, or MODCloud, with a focus on resilience and maintainability.
  • Utilize Docker and Kubernetes to containerize applications, ensuring consistent deployment across various environments including Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Automate build, test, and deployment pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps to streamline workflows.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation to manage infrastructure efficiently and reliably.
  • Participate in agile planning, estimation, and continuous improvement activities to optimize development processes.
  • Conduct peer code reviews, enforce coding standards, and utilize static analysis tools like SonarQube to maintain high-quality codebases.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive automated testing suites, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, to ensure software reliability.
  • Integrate observability, logging, metrics, and tracing into systems to monitor performance and quickly respond to issues.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, incorporating innovative solutions where appropriate.
  • Monitor and address security vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with security standards such as OWASP and NIST.
