Software Developer – Public Sector Digital Transformation

About the Role

You'll be joining a global technology organisation delivering critical digital transformation programmes across the public sector. Working on a high-profile government account, you'll contribute to large-scale platforms that support millions of users across the UK.

Your Responsibilities

As a Software Developer, you will:

  • Design, build, and improve modern software solutions tailored to user needs
  • Develop high-quality, secure, and scalable applications in an Agile environment
  • Work across the full development lifecycle, including:
    • Writing clean, maintainable code
    • Supporting production systems
    • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Embrace a "you build it, you run it" approach, taking full ownership of the services you develop
  • Collaborate in a hybrid setting, with on-site presence expected during early project stages

Experience & Skills Required

Essential

  • Strong experience in software development and engineering best practices
  • Proficiency in Java or Scala-based development
  • Experience with microservices architectures and API-driven environments
  • Understanding of cloud platforms, particularly AWS
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and test-driven development
  • Strong grasp of systems integration and service support

Desirable

  • Experience with containerisation (Kubernetes/ECS)
  • Familiarity with modern frontend technologies (React, Node.js)
  • Background in public sector or regulated environments
