Development & Release Engineering - Software Engineer (Build Support)

Location: Guildford (Hybrid - 3 days in office)

About the Role

The Development and Release Engineering (DRE) team is EA’s global hub for automation specialists. With over 100 colleagues stationed across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, we empower your game studios through expertise in Build & Test Automation, Continuous Integration, Metrics Reporting, and Virtual Infrastructure.

As a Software Engineer in our DRE Sims Support team, you’ll focus on build support, collaborating with Maxis teams worldwide. Your responsibilities will span build automation, release automation, configuration management, and system maintenance, reporting to the Development Director for Sims.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work globally with game teams to ensure build automation meets reliability and scalability needs
  • Maintain system health across diverse project repositories
  • Deliver troubleshooting support for automation infrastructure and production builds
  • Provide regular status updates for offline teams (across time zones) on assigned tasks and failure incidents
  • Actively document issues and resolutions to enhance team-wide processes across multiple environments

Core Requirements

  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • 3+ years with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Docker or alternatives)
  • Proficiency in build orchestration (e.g., Jenkins, Jenkins Pipeline, CI/CD principles)
  • Experience with version control (Perforce or Git)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving deployment and debugging strategies
  • Expertise in Python and/or scripting languages
  • Distributed systems familiarity
