Lead Software Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and capable Lead Software Engineer to join our growing Software & Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will work hand-in-hand with clients ranging from ambitious scale-ups to national public sector organizations and blue-chip names.

You will balance hands-on technical execution with team leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, low-complexity digital products used by millions of people.

Key Information

  • Location: Manchester
  • Salary: Competitive salary and benefits package (Dependent on experience).
  • Security Clearance: Any offer of employment is subject to satisfactory BPSS and SC security clearance. This requires 5 years of continuous UK address history at the point of application.
  • Closing Date: 31/08/2026 (The right is reserved to close the role early if a suitable applicant is found).

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Delivery: Work collaboratively with clients to architect, build, and deploy great digital products.
  • Technical Leadership: Deploy your own technical mastery to get things done hands-on, while successfully guiding and mentoring other engineers.
  • Pragmatic Engineering: Advocate for thoughtful, efficient solutions that deliver high business value with low architectural complexity.
  • Community Contribution: Act as an essential contributor to internal and regional engineering communities by sharing knowledge, hosting tech conversations, and mentoring peers.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Core Development: A few years of professional industry experience in at least one of the following domains/stacks:
    • Backend/Full Stack: Java, TypeScript, Python, Go, or C#
    • Frontend: React, Angular, Vue, or Svelte
  • Cloud Architecture: Proven experience with Cloud Native technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Familiarity with tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or Pulumi.
  • CI/CD: Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI, or ArgoCD).
  • Best Practices: Strong capabilities in optimizing web applications for Accessibility, Security, Performance, and Caching.
  • People Leadership: A genuine passion for leading engineering teams, managing performance, and growing the careers of team members.
