Fnality
Fnality is building the future of financial market infrastructure – creating regulated, blockchain-based payment systems to power tomorrow’s wholesale banking ecosystem. Backed by leading global banks and operating at the intersection of technology, finance, and regulation, we are powering the future of finance, together. There are no precedents for what we're doing. With you on our side, we'll be setting new ones every day.
Working at Fnality
- Be your best: We have a supportive culture that helps to bring the best out of each and every single one of our employees.
- Feel free to explore: Bring your new ideas and help us to solve problems together by joining a community of experts.
- Be part of something bigger: We will support you by fostering an open, honest culture, that enables flexibility and wellbeing. Feel part of something bigger while being yourself.
- Feel empowered: We want you to feel empowered. The nature of our business can help make this a reality. We have the agility, speed and innovation of a start-up, and a flexible working environment that enables this.
Role Purpose
Fnality is creating infrastructure for the future of wholesale payments, and we are seeking engineers who are genuinely excited by hard problems. If you bring a growth mindset, embrace modern practices, and use AI as fluently as any other tool in your craft, we'd like to talk.
We are seeking engineers that bring strong fundamentals and pair them with genuine, practical experience using modern development tooling, including AI. You are curious about where technology is heading, willing to experiment, and grounded enough to apply new tools responsibly within a highly regulated environment.
You will have strong back-end experience and ideally enough front-end exposure to contribute in a cross-functional team. You are a self-starter who understands that working in financial services means balancing pace with rigour. You know how to get things done without cutting corners that matter.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and distributed systems that underpin payment and settlement infrastructure at scale
- Write code that is clear, testable, and built to last - and hold that standard in every code review
- Contribute to architectural decisions across distributed systems, with resilience, security, and scalability as non-negotiables
- Use AI-assisted development tools as a natural part of your workflow - to move faster, sharpen your thinking, and build things you'd otherwise spend days on
- Build the AI layer, not just use it - design and implement MCP servers, agents, and skills that extend what AI systems can do and connect them to real infrastructure
- Identify where AI capabilities can add genuine value in products, operations, or internal tooling, and take them from proof of concept to production
- Own the full delivery lifecycle: design, build, test, ship, monitor, improve
- Support CI/CD pipelines, observability, and cloud infrastructure

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

How You Work
- You ship. You move through ambiguity, make pragmatic decisions, and get things across the line without waiting for perfect conditions
- You take ownership end to end - from the first design conversation to what's running in production
- You have a growth mindset: you experiment, reflect on what worked, and raise the bar continuously
- You know where AI adds value and where it doesn't - and you're confident enough to say so, push back on hype, and make the right call for the problem in front of you
- You understand that pace and rigour are not opposites - in a regulated environment, both are expected and you know how to hold them together
- You share what you learn and make the engineers around you better
What We're Looking For
Required
- Strong software engineering experience; Java essential, Go, Rust, or Python a strong plus
- Demonstrable, hands-on experience using AI development tools as part of everyday engineering work
- Experience building MCP servers, AI agents, and skills - constructing the integrations and autonomous workflows that underpin AI systems, not just consuming them
- Experience building scalable enterprise applications and APIs
- Understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and software design patterns
- Agile delivery experience, ideally from fintech, financial services, or a regulated environment
- Back-end depth and enough front-end exposure to work effectively across the stack
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Preferred
- Experience in payments, digital assets, DeFi, or regulated financial services
- Knowledge of distributed ledger technologies and blockchain platforms
- Experience with Azure OpenAI, RAG, or enterprise AI solutions
- DevSecOps, secure software development, Docker, Kubernetes

A bit more about us
Digital transformation is changing our lives, work and businesses. While other sectors evolve, however, financial markets remain slow, fragmented and siloed. What the world needs now is a future-facing financial system for the digital age.
At Fnality, we have been speaking – and listening – to the real users of today’s financial systems. From businesses to banks, there is a clear, collective ambition for a simpler, faster, safer and more resilient payment system; one that can move and settle money quickly and efficiently, with minimized risk and much more transparency.
Fnality Global Payments
We are building a network of new payment systems that will enable tokenised, peer-to-peer markets.
Fnality Global Payments (FnGP) will comprise a series of national systems, each regulated in its home jurisdiction. We call each of these a Fnality Payment System (FnPS).
In each payment system, a Fnality settlement asset will act as the settlement/payment asset for any Payment (P), Delivery vs. Payment (DvP) or Payment vs. Payment (PvP) need.
FnGP are underpinned by Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). The nature of DLT is such that it enables FnGP to:
- Operate a true peer-to-peer market
- Allow for immediate settlement
- Interoperate across business platforms and jurisdictions
The key benefits of the above are:
- Reduced counter-party and credit risk
- Reduced operational risk
- Efficient liquidity management
- An ability to move resources from risk mitigation to business growth
