Port-Minded Software Engineer at PortSwigger

At PortSwigger we choose in-person five days a week because we believe the office has tangible benefits: proximity boosts communication, speeds innovation from ad-hoc collaboration, and deepens team connections through natural interactions.

How It Works

Being on-site strengthens our culture through shared moments—like casual lunches, spontaneous discussions, and clear work-life boundaries created by dedicated workspaces.

About the Role

This isn’t a typical engineering role. We hire intentionally, prioritising team fit, culture, and shared values over isolated individual skills. As a product-minded software engineer, you’ll have full ownership from day one: autonomy to shape work, freedom to experiment, and accountability for impact.

PortSwigger’s products—trusted by ethical hackers worldwide—are built for the long term. You’ll influence the future of web security by designing, building, and refining features that go beyond code to consider why they matter.

We’re also investing in AI edge engineering—providing time, tools, and mentorship to experiment with LLMs, agents, and ML APIs to improve workflows and user experiences.

What You’ll Do

  • Solve complex technical challenges with creativity and judgement ( frontend, backend, infrastructure)
  • Balance technical breadth and depth, adapting quickly to new tools and domains
  • User-first thinking—talk to end-users and prioritise meaningful solutions
  • Share early and often: prototype, iterate, and iterate again with candour
  • Cross-functional leadership: collaborate in pair-programming, AI integration, and team design with designers, researchers, marketers
  • Champion our values and culture—hallmarking excellence with humility, vulnerability, and kindness
  • AI-driven impact:
    • Experiment with AI tools to enhance developer workflows and user-facing features
    • Strategise security solutions using AI
    • Participate in shaping our team’s practices, rhythms, and culture

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
