Software Engineer

Software Engineer (Radio) – 6 Months Contract Role

About the Role

This is a six-month contract position within Saab’s Public Safety Solutions business unit. The team specialises in developing mission-critical Command, Control, and Communication (C3) solutions, enabling police, fire, rescue, ambulance, airport, and public transport agencies to coordinate effectively during emergencies.

As a Software Engineer within Radio, you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain digital radio solutions, ensuring seamless, secure, and reliable voice/data communications in demanding environments.
  • Directly contribute to mission-critical systems that save lives and protect communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain radio software solutions using modern protocols (e.g., SIP, 3GPP).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to deliver high-performance, scalable systems.
  • Work with partners and customers to build future-proof solutions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of an existing system towards the Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
  • Continuously explore and implement new technologies to enhance communication capabilities.
  • Participate in end-to-end system design, from architecture through deployment.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience with digital radio systems.
  • Strong programming skills with proficiency in C#/.NET Core.
  • DevOps experience (CICD pipelines, e.g., TeamCity).
  • Passion for building robust, real-world software that improves community safety.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with teams and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with:
    • Multithreaded applications.
    • Test-driven development (TDD).
    • Git for source control.
    • Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD).
    • Distributed services.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of SIP signalling, RTP (Real-Time Transport Protocol), SQL.
  • Experience with Docker, Linux, and network analysis (Wireshark).
