About The Role
The Software Engineer position at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology projects that directly contribute to national security. Based in London, Manchester, or Leeds, this role involves developing, deploying, and maintaining sophisticated software systems for national security clients. You will be part of autonomous, cross-functional DevOps teams that operate in an agile environment, working closely with end-users to understand their needs and deliver impactful solutions. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in software development, with experience in one or more of the following programming languages: JavaScript, Java, .NET, or Python. You should be familiar with collaborative design and development of proof-of-concept or production systems, and experienced in source control tools like Git, Mercurial, or Perforce. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins, or TeamCity, along with automated testing frameworks, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to code quality through static analysis tools like SonarQube, and have experience working within agile methodologies such as Scrum, Lean, or Kanban. A solid understanding of common software design patterns and problem-solving skills using creativity and precedent is also important. Additional experience in machine learning, cloud deployment (AWS, Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), database systems, and software configuration tools like Ansible will be advantageous, though not mandatory. Candidates must also hold or be eligible for an active eDV security clearance, which is a prerequisite for this role.
Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, testing, and deploying software solutions that meet the needs of national security clients.
- Working closely with cross-disciplinary teams to understand user requirements and translate them into functional applications.
- Maintaining high standards of code quality through rigorous testing and static analysis, ensuring security and performance are integral to all deliverables.
- Participating in the full software development lifecycle, from initial concept and proof-of-concept to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
- Collaborating within agile teams and contributing to sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Identifying the most appropriate technologies for each project, learning new skills as needed, and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
- Supporting the integration of software with cloud platforms, containerization environments, and database systems, ensuring scalable and resilient solutions.
- Regular communication with end-users and stakeholders to refine and improve software capabilities continuously.
