# Industrial Automation | Software Engineer
Full-Time | Permanent Position
Location: Office-based, Peterborough Salary: Dependant on experience
The Role
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our expanding Software team, where we develop solutions that bridge factory floor systems and modern manufacturing software platforms.
This role sits at the intersection of software development and industrial automation. You will work on projects involving:
- SCADA systems
- Manufacturing applications
- PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) integration
- Data-driven solutions for traceability, compliance, efficiency, and operational performance.
You will be part of a collaborative team, with opportunities to learn from experienced engineers while contributing to real-world projects from day one.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop software solutions using Java and Python.
- Support and enhance SCADA and manufacturing applications.
- Integrate software with:
- PLCs
- Databases
- Factory systems
- Collaborate with Automation Engineers and Software Engineers to deliver customer projects.
- Assist in testing, commissioning, and deployment.
- Troubleshoot software and system issues.
- Produce clear, technical documentation.
- Contribute ideas to improve products, processes, and engineering standards.
- Continuously develop technical capabilities across software and automation.

Essential Requirements
- 1–2 years' software development experience, or a relevant degree with practical project work.
- Java development experience.
- Python development experience (including Python 2.7).
- Strong problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
- Ability to work:
- Independently
- As part of a team
- Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
- Full UK driving licence (or equivalent, working towards).
Desirable (Persona Non Grata Conditions)
- Exposure to Ignition by Inductive Automation.
- Experience with:
- SCADA
- HMI (Human-Machine Interface)
- Manufacturing systems
- Knowledge of PLCs and industrial control systems.
- Experience within manufacturing, automation, or engineering.
- Familiarity with:
- Electrical systems
- Industrial automation
- Control systems
- Database experience, particularly SQL.
- Exposure to communication protocols like:
- OPC-UA
- EtherNet/IP
- Experience with source control and modern software development practices.
