Software Engineer

Software Engineer (International Core Systems)

About the Role

The ideal candidate will build, operate, and improve JD’s international core systems supporting the operation centres in Europe. Leading architecture and development, you’ll drive critical technical initiatives to ensure high performance, security, availability, and scalability for product listings, inventory, and supply chain management. Your expertise will help transform multi-country systems across UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

We seek a passionate Software Engineer to work onsite in London, UK.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical architecture decisions, ensuring systems meet high standards for performance, availability, concurrency, security, and scalability across international platforms.
  • Design, implement, and optimize large-scale backend systems using Java and Spring Boot, establishing engineering best practices and reusable technical frameworks for global operations.
  • Drive complex system architectures while maintaining architectural quality through coding, continuous performance evaluation, and optimization.
  • Oversee integration and maintainability of global infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity between e-commerce, logistics, and supply chain systems.
  • Assess and mitigate technical risks, including strategies for monitorability, maintainability, grey releases, and rollbacks.
  • Research and adopt emerging technologies that enhance global scalability and interoperability within JD’s architecture.
  • Provide technical mentorship, nurture team collaboration, and refine engineering best practices.
  • Work closely with suppliers, merchandisers, and product management to deliver scalable, secure, and globally integrated solutions.

About the Team

Responsibilities Elaborated

  • Collaborate with European teams to enhance e-commerce platforms, supply chain, and data layer resilience.
  • Build and optimize big-data pipelines for fulfillment and logistics intelligence.
  • Work in a cross-border tech environment that experiences up to 50M+ requests per second during peak traffic.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Educational: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Technical Experience:

    • 5+ years in backend development with Java expertise, including JVM fundamentals, concurrency, multithreading, and performance tuning.
    • Large-scale architecture experience in complex e-commerce systems, preferably with international multi-country deployments.
    • Proven expertise in server-side languages (e.g., Java, Spring Boot) and middleware like MySQL, Redis, Kafka, with distributed systems design in high-availability, high-concurrency environments.
