Software Engineer
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Role Summary
As a global leader in 3D design, engineering, and entertainment software, Autodesk helps people imagine, design, and make a better world. Autodesk accelerates better design through an unparalleled depth of experience and a broad portfolio of software, giving customers the power to solve their design, business, and environmental challenges.
This is an exciting time to join us on our multi-year journey to disrupt the Design to Manufacture world with Fusion by delivering unprecedented value and converging workflows with cloud-based technology.
We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Birmingham-based scrum team within the Fusion organisation in the Design and Manufacturing Organisation, part of the Product Design and Manufacturing Solutions division. In this role, you will help build Autodesk Fusion, a CAD/CAM desktop application, delivering production-quality features, using AI-assisted development as part of everyday engineering work, and helping solve real customer problems.
Responsibilities
AI-assisted development
- Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude) for planning, implementation, refactoring, debugging, test generation, and documentation, always validating output for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Apply AI effectively in troubleshooting and code review; know when AI accelerates work and when deeper manual analysis is required.
- Share effective AI-assisted workflows with teammates and help raise team standards for responsible use.
Object-oriented software engineering
- Design and implement scalable, maintainable features using object-oriented C++: clear abstractions, encapsulation, inheritance, and sound use of design patterns.
- Write, test, review, and maintain high-quality code across the full software development lifecycle.
- Take ownership of features or components from design and implementation through deployment and support.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects, performance bottlenecks, and production issues.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and implementation details.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
