Software Engineer – AI & Business Solutions
Salary: Up to £60,000 + Bonus + Benefits
Location: UK Remote or Hybrid (depending on preference)
Type: Permanent
The Opportunity
Our client is looking for a Software Engineer to join a growing technology team focused on solving business challenges through software, automation, and AI.
This is not a traditional software engineering role.
While software development will remain a core part of your work, approximately 60% of your time will be spent designing, building, and deploying solutions, with the remaining 40% focused on working directly with business stakeholders, finance teams, and operational functions to understand challenges, identify opportunities, and shape outcomes.
You'll be embedded within the business rather than operating purely from a development backlog. You'll spend time understanding how teams work, uncovering inefficiencies, running workshops, gathering requirements, and identifying where technology, automation, and AI can create meaningful improvements.
Working in small, highly autonomous teams, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of problems from discovery through to delivery, combining technical expertise with commercial thinking and stakeholder engagement.
One day you may be building an internal application or AI-powered workflow; the next you could be working with business leaders to redesign a process, evaluate opportunities for automation, or map out a solution to an operational challenge.
The role can be fully remote or hybrid depending on your preference, with occasional travel to UK offices for workshops, collaboration, and stakeholder meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Technology & Solution Delivery (Approx. 60%)
- Design, develop, and deploy production-quality software applications, integrations, and automation solutions.
- Build tools and systems that improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and user experience.
- Leverage AI technologies and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and create innovative solutions.
- Take ownership of projects throughout the full software development lifecycle.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives.
- Contribute to engineering standards, tooling, and best practices.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
