Job Summary
As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing new and supporting existing kernels for linear algebra operations on a new generation of AI hardware.
The Team
This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team at Graphcore. The ML Kernels & Runtime team is responsible for delivering high-performance compute libraries to help customers maximise performance from AI hardware.
Responsibilities
- Implement kernels for linear algebra and tensor operations, including GEMM, batched GEMM, convolutions, reductions, elementwise, and fused operations in C++
- Contribute to performance and correctness by:
- Adding microbenchmarks
- Implementing regression tests
- Validating numerics
- Profile and optimise across the next generation of AI hardware, focusing on:
- Threading
- Cache locality
- Memory layout
- Kernel launch efficiency
- Debug issues, resolve bugs, and enhance product quality and functionality
- Actively engage in and support Agile ways of working within the team

Candidate Profile
Essential
- Excellent programming and scripting skills in C++ and Python
- Ability to thrive on solving complex challenges with creativity, think beyond specific components, and consider the bigger picture
- Strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrating:
- High work ethics
- Collaborative teamwork
- Commitment to delivering high-quality work and being a proactive team player
Desirable
- Strong understanding of processor architectures
- Experience or a solid grasp of algorithmic performance, covering:
- Vectorisation
- Memory hierarchy
- Threading
- Lock-free patterns
- Profiling on Linux
- Knowledge of at least one BLAS/DNN stack and ability to:
- Read existing kernels
- Extend functionality
- Awareness of:
- CPU micro-optimisations
- Numerical stability trade-offs across FP32/FP16/BF16
