About The Role

Salary: c£42,000 DOE

Location: Sheffield/Hybrid remote working

ZOO Digital currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Software Engineer to join our award-winning R&D Department. Research & Development work closely with the Product Support Team to create cutting edge software solutions for high profile and industry-leading customers.

The purpose of the Software Engineer role is to assist with all functions of software coding and design, demonstrating a strong knowledge of programming languages and software engineering paradigms. The Software Engineer will learn and understand the codebase(s) they work on and will respond to requests from senior developers, culminating in the delivery of high-quality products and services.

Day to day responsibilities will include;

  • Planning, writing, maintaining, testing and documenting code use anywhere in the stack for ZOO’s software platforms
  • Developing and providing software components that operate as part of a large multi-process system
  • Managing a portfolio of projects, keeping communication channels with senior developers and project management open.
  • Providing technical insights on codebases
  • Developing features by producing clean, efficient code, consistent with the internal coding standards/requirements set out by ZOO
  • Efficiently delivering to deadlines in line with ZOO’s quality standards
  • Automating tasks through appropriate tools and scripting
  • Reviewing and debugging code to ensure high quality, before submitting to repositories
  • Identifying and championing appropriate technologies to complete software development tasks
  • Taking ownership of features/products as appropriate, demonstrating pride in your work
  • Assisting with task planning and estimation
  • Collaborating with ZOO’s other internal teams, such as DevOps and QA, to fix and improve products

Requirements

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for bright and experienced Software Engineers who are passionate about technology, pride themselves on their excellent standards, and are keen to work as part of an ever-growing, ever-developing team. Applicants who look to push themselves to the limits of their ability will thrive within this role. As well as strong programming experience in one or more Object-Oriented languages, the Software Engineer must also have the following experience;

  • Commercial full stack development in an Agile environment is preferable.
  • Experience of backend and frontend web development technologies
  • Knowledge of database technologies is preferable
  • A good understanding of software engineering processes and methodologies
