Role Overview
Speechify’s AI team is looking to further strengthen its Data side, and we’re seeking a skilled Software Engineer in Data and AI infrastructure. You’ll focus on building high-quality, petabyte-scale datasets at minimal cost—by integrating infrastructure, software engineering, and research.

What You’ll Do
- Engineer scalable data ingestion
- Develop and optimise crawlers for new audio and text data sources
- Pipeline data into our Terraform-managed cloud infrastructure (GCP-based)
- Scale the ingestion architecture
- Operate, extend, and improve our cloud pipelines for high-throughput, cost-efficient data processing
- Collaborate with AI scientists
- Balance cost, throughput, and quality to deliver richer datasets that power our next-generation models
- Shape the AI team’s roadmap
- Work with leadership to define a data strategy that supports consumer and enterprise products
- Drive innovation
- Take on cross-functional challenges as they arise—from cumulative to ad hoc tasks

Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for a self-starter with a mix of technical acumen and ingenuity. Formally, you should:
- Hold a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science (or a related field)
- Have 5+ years’ experience in software development
- Be well-versed in automation:
- Unix/Linux systems (bash/Python scripting)
- Docker & Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) (preferably Terraform)
- Experience with at least one major cloud provider (we use GCP)
- Bring hands-on experience with:
- Web scraping crawlers or large-scale data pipelines
- Optimising cloud costs for high-throughput workloads
- Manage multiple priorities with agility and a problem-solving mindset
- Communicate clearly (written/verbal) when documenting/presenting complex ideas
