About the role
We are building a next-generation platform for one of the UK's leading financial services providers — trusted by over 2 million clients and managing approximately £150 billion in assets. This is a unique opportunity to help shape technology that transforms how people invest and achieve financial freedom.
We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Dealing Journeys squad, delivering critical capabilities at the heart of the investment experience.
You will join our Trading Tribe — a domain responsible for end-to-end investment journeys, from pre-trade decision-making and order placement through to trade execution, delivering fast, reliable and seamless investing experiences at scale.
In this role, you will build and enhance modern applications using TypeScript, contributing to products and platforms used by millions of clients.
Working closely with engineers, product managers and designers, you will deliver high-quality solutions while continuously developing your technical skills and engineering expertise.

What You'll Do
- Design, build and maintain high-quality software across backend services, APIs, web and mobile applications, following engineering, security and regulatory standards.
- Develop scalable backend solutions using Node.js and TypeScript, supporting business-critical customer and trading journeys.
- Design, build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs consumed by web and mobile applications.
- Contribute to customer-facing experiences built with React and React Native where required.
- Write clean, secure and maintainable code, actively participating in code reviews and engineering best practices.
- Support and improve existing services and applications, ensuring they remain reliable, performant and scalable.
- Contribute to the design and development of cloud-native and distributed systems running on AWS.
- Develop automated tests and promote quality engineering throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Apply secure coding practices and help ensure solutions meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Document solutions, APIs and architectural decisions.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering practices, tooling, platform capabilities and developer experience.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers and designers to deliver customer value.
- Participate in technical discussions, architecture reviews and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Continuously develop your technical and interpersonal skills while contributing to a positive engineering culture.

What You Bring
- Commercial experience building backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and/or GraphQL services.
- Strong understanding of API design, integration patterns and service-oriented architectures.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Experience working with AWS, Infrastructure as Code and cloud-native development practices.
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and modern software delivery approaches.
- Understanding of software design patterns, testing strategies and engineering best practices.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
- Solid knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and modern development practices.
- Experience developing modern web applications using React and TypeScript.
- Awareness of accessibility and user experience considerations when contributing to frontend applications.
- Strong focus on writing secure, maintainable and well-tested code.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience working in Agile product teams.
- A proactive mindset and passion for continuously improving systems, processes and engineering practices.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with PHP applications and services.
- Experience developing software using Java.
- Experience building mobile applications with React Native.
- Experience with financial services, trading or investment platforms.
- Experience with observability, monitoring and operational support tooling.
- Familiarity with highly regulated environments.
- Experience working on high-scale customer-facing platforms.
What Success Looks Like
You'll take ownership of backend services and platform capabilities while contributing across the full stack where needed. You'll work closely with product, design and engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable and secure solutions, proactively identifying opportunities to improve both the customer experience and the way we build and operate software.
