Software Engineer P2P

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer P2P based in United Kingdom.

As a Software Engineer P2P, you will contribute to the development of next-generation decentralized technologies that enable secure, resilient, and scalable peer-to-peer communication. You will work on advanced distributed systems challenges, building solutions that remove reliance on centralized infrastructure and redefine how data can be shared and discovered. This role combines deep technical problem-solving with hands-on engineering, giving you the opportunity to work on innovative networking, search, and data technologies. You will collaborate with a global remote team of engineers who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of decentralized applications. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the evolution of digital infrastructure while working on complex and technically challenging projects.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize peer-to-peer systems focused on decentralized search and resilient data discovery.
  • Build high-performance, concurrent networking solutions capable of operating reliably in distributed environments.
  • Develop and improve decentralized architectures without dependence on centralized indexes or traditional server-based infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of distributed indexing, databases, and data synchronization solutions.
  • Work on advanced networking challenges, including connectivity, transport reliability, encryption, and peer discovery.
  • Research and apply concepts from distributed systems, information retrieval, and peer-to-peer technologies to practical engineering solutions.
  • Test, evaluate, and optimize network protocols to improve scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop innovative solutions for secure and decentralized data sharing.

Requirements

  • Strong professional experience with Node.js and backend engineering in complex technical environments.
  • Passion for peer-to-peer technologies, distributed systems, and decentralized architectures.
  • Strong understanding of concepts such as Kademlia Distributed Hash Tables (DHT), distributed indexing, and related research areas.
  • Experience with distributed databases, CRDTs, and decentralized data management approaches.
  • Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, connection reliability models, multiplexing, NAT traversal, and encryption.
  • Understanding of information retrieval concepts such as ranking algorithms, recall vs. precision, lexical and semantic search, and inverted indexes.
  • Experience writing high-performance, concurrent networking code.
  • Ability to evaluate, test, and optimize network protocols and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with peer-to-peer technology stacks and frameworks such as hyperdht, hyperswarm, hypercore, hyperbee, hyperdrive, or udx-native is a strong advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work on complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote global environment.
