Software Engineer (Product-Focused) | Design-Led Construction Technology

Software Engineer (Product-Focused) | Design-Led Construction Technology

Southwark | Hybrid (typically 3 days in the office) | 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract
Circa £55,000 - £65,000 (flexible for the right person)

Some Software Engineers enjoy solving technical problems.

Others enjoy solving human ones.

They're the people who notice awkward workflows, unnecessary clicks and clunky user experiences... and instinctively start thinking about how they could be better.

If that sounds like you, this opportunity is worth a conversation.

We're working as the exclusive recruitment partner to an established consultancy that is already recognised as a leader within its specialist field.

Rather than standing still, the business is entering a genuinely transformative phase.

With a newly appointed Chief Development Officer leading a significant transformation programme, they're investing in new systems, new business streams and a technology platform that will underpin the next chapter of the business.

The aim isn't simply to digitise existing processes.

It's to create software that makes complex project information easier to understand, easier to manage and genuinely enjoyable to use.

Much of the technical foundation is already in place.

Now they're looking for someone who can help shape what the platform becomes.

This is an opportunity to become one of the earliest members of a growing product team.

You will be joining at a fascinating stage in the platform's journey. The core architecture already exists, but many of the decisions that will define how it looks, feels and evolves are still to be made. For the right person, that's an opportunity to leave a lasting mark rather than simply maintain somebody else's work.

You will work directly alongside the Chief Development Officer and collaborate closely with a highly experienced freelance Software Engineer who has already developed much of the platform's core architecture. Together, you will help shape the next stage of its evolution… improving the user experience, influencing the product roadmap and building software that genuinely makes people's working lives easier.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Your ideas won't disappear into layers of management.

You will be in the room where decisions are made.

You will have the opportunity to challenge ideas, influence decisions and help shape the future direction of the platform. The business isn't looking for someone to simply deliver somebody else's roadmap… they're looking for someone who wants to help influence / write it.

What you will be doing...

Rather than owning a small part of the product, you will have the opportunity to contribute across the entire platform, including:

  • Designing intuitive, user-centred interfaces.
  • Turning complex construction workflows into intuitive digital experiences.
  • Working across the wider software platform and existing architecture.
  • Collaborating on API integrations and business logic.
  • Improving workflows and simplifying complex user journeys.
  • Helping shape future features, priorities and the product roadmap.
  • Continuously refining the platform through user-focused thinking and iterative development.

We are particularly interested in people who...

  • Think beyond writing code and enjoy building products.
  • Care as much about user experience as they do about technical quality.
  • Naturally question how things could work better.
  • Enjoy taking products from good to exceptional.
  • Enjoy working in environments where ideas are welcomed and ownership is encouraged.
  • Want to work closely with business leaders and help shape decisions, rather than simply delivering someone else's vision.

Experience within architecture, construction, BIM, Design Technology or PropTech would be a genuine advantage… but it isn't essential.

What's far more important is your ability to combine strong software engineering skills with product thinking, curiosity and a genuine desire to build something meaningful.

Why this opportunity is different...

  • Work directly with the Chief Development Officer from day one.
  • Influence the direction of a product at an early stage of its development.
  • Join a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where good ideas carry more weight than job titles.
  • Help create software that prioritises simplicity, usability and exceptional user experience.
  • Enjoy genuine autonomy and the opportunity to make a visible impact.
  • Modern offices in Southwark with a hybrid approach to flexible working.
  • Leave your fingerprints on a platform that has the potential to shape how the business operates for years to come.

Finding the right fit...

One thing that stood out throughout our conversations with the hiring manager was how pragmatic they are about finding the right person.

Rather than forcing someone into a rigid brief, they're using this process to understand the market and are genuinely open-minded around salary, working pattern and office attendance.

If this opportunity genuinely excites you, we would encourage you to get in touch… even if your expectations don't align perfectly with the initial benchmark.

As a guide, the role is currently benchmarked around £55,000 - £65,000, although there is flexibility for the right individual.

The initial proposal is a 12 month fixed-term contract, with hybrid working from the Southwark office (typically around three days per week). However, flexibility exists around both working pattern and office attendance for exceptional candidates.

If you're looking for an opportunity where you can combine software engineering, product thinking and design to help build something from the ground up… and where your ideas will genuinely influence the direction of the product … we would love to tell you more.
