About the Role

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. Ideal for those who thrive on technical depth and enjoy distilling messy problems into robust solutions.
Organization: Alignment (Alignerr) Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, and optimise advanced Python code for production-level systems
- Analyse and manipulate structured datasets to support engineering and modelling workflows
- Write and refine SQL queries (ETL) for data extraction, transformation, and validation
- Review, debug, and enhance existing codebases for:
- Performance improvements
- Reliability assurance
- Maintainability best practices
- Translate ambiguous, high-level requirements into concrete technical solutions
- Apply consulting-style problem-solving—evaluate trade-offs and recommend optimal approaches
- Document decisions and implementation nuances with clarity
- Evaluate AI-generated code (and outputs) for correctness and quality

Who You Are
Must-Have
- 4+ years professional software engineering experience
- Advanced Python proficiency, including:
- Clean architecture principles
- Performance optimisation techniques
- Sharp debugging skills
- Strong data analysis track record in complex, real-world datasets
- Solid SQL expertise, covering:
- Complex queries, joins, and joins optimisation
- Data validation strategies
- Consulting or client-facing experience, able to:
- Reason through ambiguous/high-level problems
- Thinking critically under open-ended conditions

Nice-to-Have
- Experience with large-scale, messy, or unstructured datasets
- Familiarity with backend systems or:
