Software Engineer (Python/C#) | Greenfield Energy Trading

Location: London (Hybrid – 4 days/week) Salary: Up to £130k (+ Bonus + Benefits)

About the Role

This autonomous greenfield engineering opportunity sits with a fast-growing Energy Trading firm in London. The successful candidate will lead 15+ greenfield projects independently, creating cutting-edge solutions from scratch.You will work directly with C-Level executives and Heads of Engineering, without needing to manage a team. Your focus will be building, refining, and optimising technical solutions for the business, with immediate, high-impact results.

This is an ideal role for a seasoned software builder who can evaluate, critique, and improve existing code, as well as commmercialise AI tools to transform how the business operates. Your contribution will shape the company’s future products and make a direct difference in their day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

-Independently took ownership of greenfield projects, turning business Proof-of-Concepts (POCs) into scalable prototypes -Debugging and refactoring vintage internal tooling to meet production standards -Building AI-driven workflows and integrating tools like Claude Code into core systems -Collaborating directly with C-Level executives and engineering leadership to define and deliver technical solutions -Delivering high-impact upgrades without delegation, from build to deployment

Required Technical Skills

Primary Focus:

  • 8+ years of Python or C# software engineering (either skillset can be the core)
  • Experience with Python/C# workflows and debugging existing codebases
  • Strong desire to evaluate, improve, and exploit technical gaps (builder mindset)

AI & Modern Stack Savvy:

  • Ability to critique and commercialise AI tools (e.g., Claude Code integration)
  • Understanding of how AI can automate or optimise workflows in a trading environment

Bonus (But Not Mandatory):

  • Experience with frontend frameworks (e.g., Angular, React)
  • Familiarity with cloud architectures (Azure), Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), Kubernetes, and DevOps practices

Soft Skills & Culture Fit

  • Stakeholder sensitivity — comfortable drafting technical solutions for C-Level and securing alignment
  • Proven ability as an autonomous engineer — thrives in roles with unstructured challenges, connections, and ownership
  • Constructive critic — knows when to challenge legacy systems and when to optimise — with no hand-holding
