About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineer to join our dynamic team at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence. In this role, you will work closely with national security clients to develop, deploy, and maintain sophisticated systems supporting their core mission capabilities. You will be part of autonomous DevOps teams that prioritize agile methodologies, continuous integration, and continuous delivery to ensure rapid and reliable deployment of software solutions. The role offers flexibility with hybrid working arrangements, allowing you to operate from London, Manchester, or Leeds, either full-time or part-time, depending on your preference and availability.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development and possess experience in several of the following areas:

  • Programming in JavaScript, Java, .Net, or Python
  • Designing and building proof of concept or production systems collaboratively
  • Proficiency with source control tools such as Git, Mercurial, or Perforce
  • Utilizing CI/CD tools like Bamboo, Jenkins, TeamCity, or Bitbucket to streamline deployment processes
  • Implementing automated testing frameworks to ensure code quality
  • Applying static code analysis tools such as SonarQube for maintaining code standards
  • Working within agile environments utilizing Scrum, Lean, or Kanban methodologies
  • Understanding common software design patterns and principles
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to new challenges

Additional experience in the following areas is desirable but not mandatory:

  • Machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Amazon SageMaker, or Azure Machine Learning
  • Cloud deployment and management with AWS or Microsoft Azure
  • Containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with relational, document, or graph databases
  • Software configuration and deployment tools such as Ansible

Candidates must be eligible for an active security clearance, specifically an active eDV, due to the sensitive nature of the work involved.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions aligned with client requirements and security standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and end-users to gather requirements, define technical specifications, and deliver effective solutions
  • Implement and manage continuous integration and deployment pipelines to facilitate rapid delivery cycles
  • Write automated tests to ensure software reliability and performance
  • Participate in code reviews, static analysis, and documentation to uphold coding standards and best practices
  • Engage in agile ceremonies and contribute to team planning, retrospectives, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend new technologies and approaches to solve complex problems
  • Support and troubleshoot existing systems, providing ongoing maintenance and enhancements as needed
  • Work closely with security teams to ensure compliance with security policies and standards
