Akeneo is the leading AI-powered Product Data Platform that helps brands, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers unify product data and pricing to power better product experiences, smarter decisions, and business growth in an AI-driven commerce world.

We’re all about experience - from the best-in-class product we build to the inspiring environment we create for our employees. You’ll grow in a dynamic environment where your ideas and expertise will make an impact from day one. Our flexible work model empowers you to thrive, balancing professional success with personal fulfilment. At Akeneo, you’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative team that values open communication, shared successes, and meaningful relationships.

The Team and Areas of Ownership

The SDM team owns the Akeneo Supplier Data Manager, the front door to the Akeneo Product Cloud for data.

SDM is a painkiller, not a vitamin. Retailers and distributors don't adopt it because it's nice to have; they adopt it because, without it, onboarding supplier data is a manual, error-prone job that keeps products off the shelf. Hundreds of suppliers send product data in various formats (spreadsheets, PDFs, images), and that data must be cleaned, classified, enriched, and verified before it reaches the catalogue. SDM does this through a pipeline of connected modules: mapping, validation, classification, extraction, multi-destination distribution, and more.

The scale is what makes this hard. These are not small files you can hand to an LLM and get a clean answer back. Supplier catalogues are large, constantly changing, and full of industry-specific terms, formatting quirks, and domain knowledge that trip up general-purpose tools. Some of the processing is deterministic; some of it isn't. Building systems that handle all of it reliably, at volume, across hundreds of supplier configurations, is the engineering problem you'd be here to help solve.

SDM is a cross-functional team that owns its work end-to-end and prides itself on solving the right problems, not just shipping code. Leadership sets direction and decides how much to invest in each problem; we own how to get there. When priorities compete, we make the trade-off together, grounded in customer data rather than opinion, and we're comfortable saying no to work that doesn't move the needle. The team is in a period of real investment and acceleration, and we're hiring engineers to help own SDM's future.

We're hiring at multiple levels on this team. This is the Software Engineer role for people on the rise. If you already have deep experience, our Senior Software Engineer opening is likely the better fit; you can always change once you speak to us.

What you will deliver in the role…

  • Ship features across SDM: build and ship real features end-to-end, across the data-processing back end and the TypeScript and React front end, with the team alongside you.
  • Work on the data-processing pipelines: the core of SDM turns messy supplier data into trusted, high-volume catalogue data. Some steps are deterministic; some use LLMs to extract attributes and classify products. You'll help make them reliable, and you'll learn how to handle real problems of scale and correctness as you go.
  • Own what you build: as you grow, you'll take on more end-to-end, from shipping to monitoring in production to closing the loop with support. A weekly support rotation is shared across the team.
  • Grow into a senior engineer: through code review, pairing, and a wider Staff Engineering group invested in helping you get there.
  • Take part in customer discovery: see how customers actually work, and how their feedback shapes what we build.
  • Work across the Product Cloud: collaborate with adjacent teams and learn how the wider platform fits together.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What will set you up for success at Akeneo…

  • You don't need to be a senior, and you don't need a specialist background or a big name on your CV. You need the makings of a strong engineer: real problem-solving instinct, curiosity, drive, and solid fundamentals to build on. This is a team working on genuinely hard problems, so being excited to learn here means being excited to learn things and to be stretched. You'll grow fast, with a senior team and a wider Staff Engineering group to learn from.
  • You think, not just code. You want to understand why something is being built and how it really works, not just close the ticket. When you hit something you don't know, you dig in rather than paper over it.
  • You're building strong fundamentals. You generally know your way around different data structures and algorithms, and you're learning to reason about system design. You care about writing code that works properly, not just code that looks like it works.
  • You want to go deep when things get hard. When something breaks or confuses you, you want the real cause, not just to make the error go away. You like debugging, experimenting, and getting to the bottom of things.
  • You're comfortable across the stack, or keen to be. SDM spans data-processing back ends and a TypeScript and React front end. You don't need to be expert at both, but you're happy moving between them and eager to broaden.
  • You know at least one of Python, PHP, or JavaScript and TypeScript, and you pick up new ones fast. Python powers our data pipelines; PHP underpins the wider Akeneo Product Cloud; TypeScript and React cover the front end. You'll use more than one over time, and learning quickly matters more than which you start with.
  • You care about the customer. You want to know who uses what you build and why it matters to them.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity, or want to get there. We won't hand you a detailed spec for everything. You'll get clear problems and the room to solve them, with support when you need it.
  • You use AI to think, not just to type. We build with tools like Claude Code. The point isn't to churn out more code; it's to use AI to explore, experiment, and reason through problems, and to learn faster. When anyone can generate code, the value is in knowing what to build and why. (This is about how we build, not what we build.)
  • You don't need to tick every box. We strongly encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. If you are excited about this opportunity but your experience differs slightly, we still want to hear from you!
