Software Developer (Buyside Investment Solutions)
NextWave Consulting are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to play a key role in shaping the future technology operations model (TOM) for a buy-side client implementing the following platforms:
- Charles River (OMS)
- Adroit (Execution Management System - EMS)
- Alpine Data Lake (built on Databricks)
- State Street’s Alpha Data Platform (ADP) (as part of outsourced operations)
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will:
- Collaborate with technology teams, trading desks, and external vendors (Databricks, Charles River) to:
- Design, integrate, and optimise trading platforms.
- Support extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes for data-intensive workflows.
- Develop, maintain, and optimise applications and services using:
- Python
- .Net Framework
- Databricks ecosystems and tools
- Write and optimise:
- SQL queries
- Stored procedures
- Database schema structures for high-performance data access and reporting
- Partner with business stakeholders to:
- Gather and interpret functional requirements.
- Transform these into scalable, maintainable solutions, adhering to regulatory standards.
- Troubleshoot complex technical challenges to enhance system stability, performance, and resilience.
- Follow best practices in coding, testing, continuous integration, and deployment (CI/CD) for regulated environments.

Key Requirements
- Proven track record as a Software Engineer/Developer in investment management / asset management.
- Proficient in multiple programming languages:
- Python (data pipelines, automation, analytics)
- .Net (C#/VB.NET IDEs preferred)
- Deep technical experience with Databricks including:
- Data processing frameworks (Delta Lake, Spark)
- SQL on Databricks SQL Warehouse
- Streaming data pipelines & transformations
- OMS Platform Expertise – Strong preference for Charles River SaaS (Order Management System). Experience with:
- Order routing, workflow, and auditing
- Integration with prime brokerage / third-party trading tools
- State Street Alpha Data Platform (ADP) familiarity is an essential asset.
- Hands-on experience with:
- API design & use (REST/GraphQL)
- Data integration protocols (SFTP, middleware, custom middleware)
- Financial data standards (FIX, ISO 20022)
- Strong SQL expertise: Advanced query design, opinionated schema management, optimisation, and performance tuning across:
- OLTP vs OLAP scenarios
- Firestore, CosmosDB, or PostgreSQL ecosystems
- Domain knowledge on trading and execution workflows is highly desirable, including:
- Market Data (Real-Time & Historical)
- Order/Trade Execution (City, MAM, algorithms, limit market orders)
- Risk management frameworks in buyside settings
- Problem-solving & analytical mindset:
- Ability to break down technical & business challenges.
- A collaborative approach in fast-paced environments.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong communication (translating technical solutions for stakeholders)
- Agile/Scrum process experience
- Collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
