The Role
As a UI Engineer on the F1 team at Codemasters, you’ll design, develop, and implement rich 2D and 3D UI screens, ensuring a seamless user experience (UX) in high-performance racing games.
Reporting to a Lead Engineer, this role bridges technical excellence and creative vision, with opportunities to collaborate across design, art, content, and production teams. Whether working on frontend interfaces, in-game HUD elements, or interactive user features, your influence will be tangible and impactful—helping to deliver a game that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Collaboration:
- Contribute to technical designs and implementations for UI features
- Work closely with game design, experience design, and production teams to assess and propose technically feasible solutions
- Assist in documentation, scope management, and feature planning

Development & Maintenance:
- Write and maintain high-quality C++ code within a large, cross-discipline agile framework
- Extend and optimize UI-related systems to improve performance and usability

Testing & Optimization:
- Test and refine UI features to ensure robustness and enhance player engagement
- Support automation of UI testing procedures

Cross-Functional Support:
- Collaborate with other engineers (multidisciplinary teams) to ensure seamless integration

Estimation & Process Improvement:
- Provide accurate feature estimates for the development pipeline
- Identify and prioritise technical debt, contributing to its incremental resolution
Minimum Qualifications & Key Skills
- Proficient in C++ (core feature implementation)
- Strong understanding of UI-related programming principles (input handling, rendering, interaction mechanics)
- Expertise in UI design patterns, particularly MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel)
- Experience with debugging and profiling tools for performance optimization
- Familiarity with finite state machines and game loop mechanics
- Solid grasp of 3D mathematics and geometry (essential for UI positioning, animations, and UI emulation)
- Experience with cross-platform and console development (e.g., PlayStation, Xbox, PC)
- Ideally, at least one shipped, full-lifecycle game title in a UI-focused role
