About the Role
Our Capability Development team develops bespoke software for our clients in the Cyber Security domain. We may be building assured software that prioritises engineering rigour and reliability, rapid solutions that bring together existing tooling for high-impact results, or blended operational systems that address real-world challenges in the field. Common to all is a commitment to technically led decisions, meaningful technical challenge, and engaging career paths where your work makes it off the shelf and into the hands of our customers.
Across our projects, we work with a range of platforms, languages and delivery environments. This may include web applications, native applications, automation, data processing, integration work, mobile platforms, Linux systems, cloud or on-premise deployments, and specialist operational environments. We are interested in engineers who are comfortable adapting to different technical contexts and choosing appropriate tools for the problem at hand.
This role is aimed at software engineers with experience delivering software projects using interpreted languages and modern development practices. You may have worked with languages such as Python, Rust, JavaScript, C++, TypeScript, Go or similar, alongside experience building user-facing systems, APIs, services, native applications or tooling. We are less concerned with a fixed technology stack and more interested in strong engineering fundamentals, practical problem solving, and the ability to deliver useful, maintainable software.
We are led by engineers and empowered to optimise our lightweight development processes with the knowledge gained from each project. We value people who take ownership, communicate clearly, work well in small teams, and enjoy seeing software make a difference.
We are ideally looking for a candidate who holds an active Security Clearance to join our team, however, we will consider sponsoring new clearances for candidates that meet our technical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
As part of our team, you may be:
- Designing and developing new software products, tools or capabilities from early concept through to delivery.
- Adding new features to, improving, or replacing components within existing systems.
- Building prototypes to explore technical options, validate ideas and help shape project direction.
- Developing web, native, service-side or automation-focused software depending on project need.
- Integrating applications, APIs, third-party tools or internal systems to deliver practical outcomes.
- Working with colleagues and customers to understand requirements and turn them into reliable software.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

For this role, you will be hands-on in the day-to-day delivery of projects. Typically, this will see you working with one or two other colleagues at a time, taking responsibility for implementation decisions while contributing to wider project planning and delivery.
You will help maintain high engineering standards through clear design, readable code, testing, review and pragmatic technical decision-making. You may also support junior colleagues by sharing knowledge, encouraging good development practices, and helping the team balance quality, maintainability and realistic delivery timescales.

- Ability to understand requirements, make sensible technical decisions and deliver maintainable software.
- Experience working with existing codebases, including debugging, refactoring and adding new functionality.
- Familiarity with modern software engineering practices such as code review, automated testing, continuous integration and version control.
- Comfortable learning unfamiliar technologies, libraries or platforms when required by a project.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in small, technically focused teams.
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions and collaborate with colleagues or customers.

Salary
We are recruiting staff at all levels in this team, and are able to support market-leading salaries for every grade within our sector/location. We reward staff based on technical excellence and not years of experience, so it's important to us to speak with you to see which grade you would fit into - it's not always obvious from a CV! Your interviewer will spend time during your first interview speaking with you about how your skills and experience map against our grades, and discuss a salary band so that you know early what you can expect if you receive an offer from us. The technical interview will provide a deeper assessment of your skills against your mapped grade which ultimately determines whether you receive an offer and the exact salary.
Location
We are based in the centre of Cheltenham in a stunning new build contemporary office, 5 minutes walk from the local shops and cafes.
Additional Details
Our interview process is quick and to the point: if you look like a good fit for the role, we'll schedule a brief call to discuss it in more detail and answer any questions you may have. If that goes well, we'll arrange a technical interview to understand your level of experience. We aim to get back to you with an answer within a couple of days of the technical interview.
