Software Manager

Are you an experienced Software Manager who enjoys combining hands-on development with technical leadership? Do you have a background in embedded software, control systems, and leading engineering teams within a highly regulated environment?

We're working with an innovative engineering manufacturer that develops complex electronic systems used in safety-critical industrial applications. Due to continued growth, they're looking for a Software Manager to lead the software function, shape the technical roadmap, and oversee the successful delivery of software projects from concept through to deployment.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll lead a small team of Software Engineers while managing external development partners to deliver high-quality software solutions on time and to specification.

This is a varied role where you'll remain technically involved while driving software strategy, supporting new product development, maintaining existing platforms, and ensuring all solutions meet stringent safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities as a Software Manager:

  • Lead the software team, providing technical direction, mentoring, and performance development.
  • Develop and maintain embedded software for complex electronic control systems.
  • Define the long-term software architecture and technical roadmap.
  • Establish coding standards, software development best practice, and robust engineering processes.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through to deployment and commissioning.
  • Work closely with Hardware, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Develop intuitive human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and robust control software.
  • Maintain and enhance existing software platforms while supporting future product development.
  • Investigate and resolve software issues, ensuring safe and reliable solutions for customers.
  • Support production, service, and manufacturing teams with software-related issues.
  • Manage project plans, resources, budgets, and delivery milestones.
  • Identify technical risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement across software development processes and team capability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
