Software Engineering Manager
Software Engineering Manager (Hybrid – 3 days Paddington, London)
Location: 3 days/week onsite at our Paddington, London Office
As a Software Engineering Manager within Store Payments & Infrastructure, you will lead teams responsible for running and evolving critical store systems, ensuring they operate reliably within live trading environments. Collaborating across multiple engineering teams and third-party partners, you’ll drive scalable delivery outcomes in a domain defined by intricate integrations with store hardware and external systems—focusing on improving design, testing, and operational efficacy at scale.

This hybrid role is perfect for a technologist with experience delivering high-quality software in complex production environments, while advancing reliability, modernisation, and engineering standards.

- Engineering excellence: Own the quality (behaviours, operations, direction, production solutions, skills growth, and reputation) across your teams.
- Empowerment & accountability: Foster self-management and ownership through leadership, purpose alignment, and strategic talent development.
- Technical strategy coordination: Collaborate with wider Technology teams to refine and execute the overall technical direction.

Who You Are
To excel in this role, you should bring:
Technical Background
- Senior hands-on software engineering experience in complex, production-critical systems.
- Deep expertise in large-scale, live-operational environments, including:
- System design & architecture
- Cloud technologies (Azure, Kubernetes, Docker) and DevOps principles
- Testing strategies & reliability engineering
- Proficiency with:
- Micronaut/Spring Boot
- Kafka & event-driven architectures
- CICD (GitHub Actions/Azure Pipelines)
- Observability (Dynatrace)

- Proven record of building and leading elite engineering teams delivering high-impact, customer-facing software.
- Strong stakeholder management and team leadership skills.
