With ethical values that run right through the company’s core and technology leaders that truly understand software engineering, it’s an exciting time as we continue to transform into a digital-first and engineering-led organisation, with the quality of our engineering teams being a key differentiator.

This role sits within the Warehouse Management team, supporting the Fashion, Home & Beauty (FH&B) Supply Chain & Logistics sub-domain, which is central to M&S’s ambitious growth plans. You will provide technical expertise, ship thoughtfully and operate with excellence as part of an empowered, self-managing, multi-disciplinary engineering team. Working in partnership with Product and Delivery, you’ll design, build, release and maintain products that solve complex business and customer challenges.

You will play a key role in driving our ambition to create a best-in-class software engineering team, environment and culture. We are looking for people to join our engineering community to help shape this transformation, build a modern digital ecosystem using exciting technologies and do the best work of their careers.

Due to high interest, this role may close earlier than advertised. We recommend applying as soon as possible.

What You'll Do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Build, mentor and lead a high-performing software engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
  • Oversee the planning, execution and delivery of software initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives, customer outcomes, priorities and timelines while proactively managing risks and dependencies.
  • Drive the adoption of engineering standards, software development methodologies and best practices, providing technical leadership and guidance across complex programmes and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain high standards for software quality, reliability, security and performance, ensuring products meet operational and business requirements.
  • Lead the team in improving engineering maturity, progressing towards and maintaining Elite DORA standards while embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Drive cloud-first thinking, modernisation of the technology landscape and effective use of shared platforms to maximise value delivery across engineering teams.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Programme Management and senior engineers to define roadmaps, prioritise technical investments and deliver scalable business solutions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
