Lead Full Stack Engineer
£70,000 - £80,000 Base + Benefits Remote Based
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced engineering leader who combines strong technical expertise with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset. As a Lead Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role within the Engineering team, providing technical leadership, influencing architectural direction, and setting high standards for engineering excellence.
This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll work closely with the Director of Product Engineering to shape the technical strategy, establish engineering best practices, and tackle the complex challenges that have the greatest impact on the platform and customers.
It’s an exciting time to join the Organisation. We’ve established a solid platform, have a clear vision for the future, and are looking for someone who is excited to help drive the next stage of growth.
The successful candidate will be experienced in full stack engineering utilising Java, AWS, and Node.js. This role is perfectly suited to a Lead Engineer who wants to remain hands-on coding, whilst providing technical leadership/mentoring and assisting in architecture and technical strategy.
Responsibilities Include:
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Lead architectural decision-making to ensure the platform remains scalable, secure, maintainable and resilient.
- Serve as the technical authority for complex engineering challenges, providing hands-on leadership and guidance.
- Advocate for modern software engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, automation and continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, engineering processes and peer review across the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
