This role is based out of either our Adastral Park Ipswich, or Assembly Bristol office. We have a hybrid working model of 3 days together and 2 days wherever.

Due to the nature of the work, you will need to be eligible for security clearance+.

About The Role

Secure Contracts is an organization within BT designed to serve the UK Government. We are here to underpin public safety and national security. You will be working on modernising services to government and delivering new contract capabilities as well as maintaining the security posture of existing contracts and services.

With the launch of Sovereign Products and a push into defence industries the responsibilities of Secure Contracts is expanding. This role will set the architecture and technical guidance in the software engineering space and bring architectural leadership and guidance to our existing team. The role will be there to support the solution design manager in a technical capacity.

This is a hybrid “hands on technical and Architecture” role that will support winning new business, influencing key stakeholders (internal and external) and technically working with and leading the technical strategy for the engineering team.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivers deep technical and repeatable solutions that achieve customer requirements driving positive outcomes
  • Guides partnerships with business and operational stakeholders to conduct business and technical discovery
  • Implements robust recommendations, proposals and scope of work documents for group engagements while also identifying critical dependencies and gaps
  • Delivers the creation of innovative and repeatable solution architectures to resolve a range of complex solution architecture problems and meet agreed requirements
  • Facilitates business stakeholders’ understanding of capabilities and the transformative power of group products, services and technology
  • Drives the team culture of enhancing the solution architect team’s knowledge, methodologies and customer-facing collateral
  • Executes alignment with Enterprise Architecture guardrails and solution patterns
  • Contributes to thought leadership and provides advice on a specific set of technologies to help senior leadership shape the long-term direction of solution architecture strategy
  • Delivers complex, strategic initiatives that are a part of the company's overall commercial Strategy
  • Champions, continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in solution architecture
  • Mentors other solution architects, helping to improve the team’s abilities by acting as a technical resource
  • Act as the technical expert on architecture governance and design authority for development of products and services in line with the published roadmap

Essential Skills / Experience

  • System Design and Architecture: Designing scalable, maintainable, and robust software systems, rather than just writing code.
  • Advanced Programming Proficiency: Mastery of at least one programming language (React, JavaScript/TypeScript, Tailwind/Bootstrap, C#, ASP.net, SQL, Java) and adhering to best practices.
  • Code Quality & Testing: Ensuring high security standards through code reviews, test-driven development, and writing testable code.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Debugging and Troubleshooting: Exceptional skills in identifying and fixing complex issues across the stack.
  • Data Structures & Algorithms: Using complex data structures to optimize application performance.
  • DevOps & Infrastructure: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and monitoring.
  • CISP: Holds CISP or the role holder will commit to work towards obtaining CISP
