Software Engineer/Tech Lead - Code Plane [IC5]
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer/Tech Lead - Code Plane [IC5] based in United Kingdom.
As a Software Engineer/Tech Lead, you will take a leading role in shaping developer tools and AI-powered products that transform how software is built and maintained. You will combine hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership, guiding product direction, architecture decisions, and execution across complex code intelligence platforms. Working within a globally distributed, async-first engineering environment, you will collaborate closely with product, design, customer-facing teams, and fellow engineers to solve challenging problems at scale. This role offers the opportunity to influence the future of AI-assisted development by building tools used directly by developers and intelligent agents around the world.
Accountabilities
- Lead technical direction for a team building large-scale developer products, setting architecture principles, engineering standards, and technical priorities.
- Drive the roadmap from concept to delivery by translating customer needs, product goals, and technical opportunities into actionable engineering plans.
- Build and ship complex product features hands-on while supporting engineers through technical guidance, mentorship, and decision-making.
- Own significant product areas, including code transformation workflows, AI-assisted development experiences, code intelligence tools, and developer automation capabilities.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Customer Engineering, and other engineering teams to turn customer feedback into impactful solutions.
- Make architectural decisions and evaluate technical trade-offs to ensure scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems.
- Improve team practices around design, development, testing, code reviews, and delivery processes.
- Develop a strong understanding of customer challenges and agent-based development workflows to influence future product investments.
- Contribute to an on-call rotation and support the reliability of critical developer-facing systems.
- Promote a collaborative, high-trust engineering culture through proactive communication and effective stakeholder management.

Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong background in building production software.
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership, guide architecture decisions, and make complex engineering trade-offs.
- Experience building end-user product features, ideally within developer tools, AI products, technical platforms, CLIs, or similar environments.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with Product and Design teams to take ideas from discovery through successful delivery.
- Customer-facing experience, including gathering feedback, supporting discovery processes, and incorporating insights into product roadmaps.
- Experience building products designed for or consumed by AI agents, such as agent tooling, SDKs, MCP servers, or agent-friendly developer workflows.
- Hands-on experience using coding agents and AI development tools, with a strong understanding of their capabilities, limitations, and future potential.
- Strong async communication skills and experience working effectively in globally distributed remote teams.
- Ability to mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and create alignment across teams.
- Familiarity with technologies such as Go, TypeScript, React, SvelteKit, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and multi-service architectures is a plus.
- Experience with developer tools, code search, code intelligence, large-scale refactoring systems, monitoring solutions, or technical leadership roles is advantageous.
