Software Optimization Engineer – GPU / Hardware-Accelerated Media (FFmpeg / HandBrake / Intel® Quick Sync Video) (f/m/d)

Software Engineering Experienced Hire – Intel Media & GPU Acceleration

About the Role

This is a unique Software Engineering position combining cutting-edge media software engineering, hardware/software architecture influence, and deep GPU/media expertise to deliver industry-leading hardware-accelerated video solutions on Intel Graphics architecture. You’ll work with top open-source media communities (FFmpeg, HandBrake, VLC), independent software vendors, broadcasters, and content creators—alongside Intel engineering—to optimise encode/decode/transcode pipelines for Intel client and workstation platforms.

Your focus will be on leveraging expertise in:

  • Intel® Quick Sync Video (QSV), oneVPL/VPL
  • Media Acceleration APIs (VA-API on Linux, D3D11/D3D12 Video on Windows)
  • Modern codecs (AVC/H.264, HEVC/H.265, AV1, VP9, VVC)

You’ll drive research, development, and proactive open-source contributions to foster Intel’s media capability adoption via:

  • Industry-leading hardware-accelerated media solutions
  • AI-boosted workflows (e.g., super-resolution, denoising)
  • Collaboration with open-source communities for quality analysis, optimisation, and market-readiness

The role spans feature definition to GTM, including technical guidance, training, and community advocacy at an organizational level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development & Optimization
    • Analyze, design, debug, and upstream open-source projects (FFmpeg, HandBrake, GStreamer, OBS, etc.).
    • Optimise Intel media paths (e.g., QSV, oneVPL, VA-API, libmfx, Direct3D Video).
    • Influence vendor/ISV products to align with Intel media support roadmaps.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
