Software Project Manager

# Job Opportunity: Software Project Manager 📍 Cheltenham

💰 Salary: £55,700 – £83,500 🔒 Security Clearance Required: Highest Level of UK Government Clearance (UK National only)

For this Software Project Manager role in Cheltenham, you’ll take the lead in mission-driven software, cyber and IT projects. Supporting high-impact work in fast-moving, complex environments, your role blends financial acumen, project leadership and technical insight to deliver unparalleled results for diverse stakeholders.

You will structure technical delivery, drive performance, and enhance collaborative approaches—all to ensure your project’s success in time, cost and quality, while unlocking growth opportunities for the business.


Your Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Steer financial management, including risk assessment and cost mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure on-time, on-budget, high-quality delivery across time & materials and fixed-price contracts.
  • Propel project profitability and commercial growth opportunities.

Team & Delivery Focus

  • Maintain momentum and focus—prioritising outcomes that drive impact.
  • Develop and drive a high-performing delivery team, fostering morale and expertise.
  • Coach teams in using agile, lean, and modern delivery practices.

Stakeholder & Strategic Involvement

  • Strengthen agreeing and influencing senior stakeholders—bridging complex technical terminology with strategic decisions.
  • Streamline lessons-learned and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Enable stakeholder engagement to uncover new opportunities.
  • Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to align solutions with customer needs.

Project Closure & Legacy

  • Lead project closure activities, including reviews and process refinements.

Candidate Requirements

✅ Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven project management, software or IT related delivery experience with a focus on technical collaboration.
  • Defence, Government or similar high-security background.
  • Strong methodology knowledge:
    • PRINCE2, Agile, MSP, or similar.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders with persuasive negotiation skills.
  • Clear, adaptable communication—simplifying technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Hands-on experience in strategy-shaping, process definition, and high-level decision-making.
  • Track record of performance reviews, lessons learned, and knowledge-reusable artefacts.

🔹 Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep experience in Defence and Cyber delivery environments.
  • Driving or contributing to R&D or new growth opportunities.
