Software Test / QA Engineer

Location: Northampton (Hybrid: 3 Days Office / 2 Days Remote)
Salary: £36,000 – £42,000 + Benefits (Depending on experience)
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

About the Opportunity

Are you a QA professional with a passion for software quality and test automation? An established, fast-growing £10M turnover business based in Northampton is looking for a Software Test / QA Engineer to join their collaborative team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with 2–5 years of experience who wants to play a key role in elevating testing standards, driving test automation, and ensuring high-performance software delivery.

Enjoy a modern, flexible working setup with 3 days on-site in Northampton and 2 days working from home.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Test Design & Execution: Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and automated test scripts.
  • Automation & Coding: Utilize JavaScript and C# to build, maintain, and run efficient test scripts.
  • Full Lifecycle Testing: Perform functional, regression, performance, and security testing to identify bugs early in the release cycle.
  • Defect Management: Document, track, and manage software defects using JIRA.
  • Data Verification: Use MySQL to run database queries and verify data integrity.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely alongside developers, product managers, and release teams in an Agile environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to refining QA processes, integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines, and driving best practices across the team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: 2–5 years of proven experience in QA engineering / software testing across manual and automated testing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming with JavaScript and/or C# for automation.
  • Tools & Databases: Working knowledge of JIRA, version control (Git), and MySQL.
  • Methodologies: Strong understanding of Agile (Scrum/Kanban) workflows and continuous integration (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Mindset: Strong problem-solving ability, high attention to detail, and excellent written/verbal communication skills.

Nice to Haves (Preferred)

  • ISTQB certification or equivalent QA qualification.
  • Experience with API testing or performance testing tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud testing environments (e.g., AWS).
