**Software Release Engineer – Embedded Systems Solutions (ESS)
Location: Based at the customer’s site in Woking, UK
About the Role
At Tata Technologies, we transform product development visions into reality by designing, engineering, and validating future-focused solutions for global manufacturers. Within our Embedded Systems Solutions (ESS) department—an ASPICE-compliant team—this role focuses on software release management, ensuring technical excellence in vehicle electrification, autonomy, and cybersecurity systems.
Our teams cover the full embedded development lifecycle (SYS ML, HL SW, and direction of core engineering fields), eliminating insects and risks across portfolio projects.
This is an on-site role, enabling collaboration with business and partner teams at a key automotive customer’s facility.
Role Summary
The Software Release Engineer drives seamless software deliveries, maintaining high-quality release reporting and governance while aligning with schedule gates and requirements. Reporting to the Senior Software Releases and Management Engineer, this pivotal role requires strong organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate cross-functionally—ensuring timely adherence to release milestones.
Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Release Process Ownership:
- Manage the software release pipeline, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to quality standards.

Collaborative Test & Integration Coordination:
- Work closely with Integration, Verification and Validation (IV&V) teams to plan, schedule, and coordinate software deliveries and test activities.

Technical Documentation & Traceability:
- Maintain and update Software Bill of Materials (SW BOM) for multiple product variants.
- Generate and manage software part numbers across product variants.

Validation & Deployment Assurance:
- Ensure rigorous functional, integration, and performance testing of software releases before deployment into systems (including with ESP dependencies).

Cross-Business Representation:
- Act as a voice for Software Releases across all business levels, escalating and resolving blockers.

Issues & Risk Mitigation:
- Oversee software issues tracking databases, prioritising and resolving issues collaboratively with stakeholders (e.g. Jira or similar).

Vendor & Third-Party Coordination:
- Integrate and validate third-party software components, ensuring alignment with quality standards and smooth system integration.

Planning & Governance:
- Develop and maintain release plans, schedules, and supporting documentation for cohesive execution.
Required Skills & Experience

Education & Formal Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or related field), with a minimum 2:1 classification.

Technical Expertise:
- Proven expertise in automotive software release management—including methodology, risk assessment, and compliance.
- Ability to create and manage SW BOMs with traceability for multiple variants.
- Proficiency in release planning, scheduling, and documentation with detailed evidence.

Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Familiarity with third-party software integration (ensuring compatibility within complex vehicle systems).
- Experience navigating database tools (e.g. Jira) for issue tracking and workflow management.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams.

Soft Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to challenge tactfully without alienating stakeholders.
- Strong time management and problem-solving abilities.

Beneficial Certifications:
- Formal project or quality management certification (e.g. PRINCE2, CMMI).

- Competence in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Expertise in automotive industry terminology and engineering requirements.
- Understanding of Electrical Systems, Controls, and Embedded Real-Time Systems.
- Familiarity with automotive protocols like Ethernet, CAN, DoIP, LIN.
- Insight into engineering change management processes.
- Experience within a high-performance automotive software environment.
