Software Engineering Team Lead
Location: Bristol, UK (Hybrid – 2 days in-office per week)
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent
Package: £55,000 - £65,000 + Premium Benefits Package (including Private Healthcare, Income Protection, Life Assurance, and 25 Days Holiday)

Our client is a highly successful, mission-driven organization dedicated to developing impactful software solutions used by people across the globe. They build multi-platform desktop and mobile applications designed to make a real difference in society.
They are currently expanding their R&D function and are seeking a Software Engineering Team Lead to guide a high-performing, cross-functional engineering squad. This is an exceptional opportunity to balance complex technical architecture with a rewarding, purposeful mission.
The Role: Balancing Code, Delivery, and Leadership
In this position, you will remain close to the technology while stepping into a pivotal leadership role. You will head a structured sprint team comprising 5 developers and a dedicated QA professional.
Our client aims for an ideal split of roughly 30% to 50% hands-on engineering, ensuring you maintain high technical standards while guiding the team's delivery and growth. Supported by internal Product and UX specialists, your responsibilities will focus on three key areas:

- Technical Stewardship: Writing clean, scalable, cross-platform C# (.NET) code, championing automated testing, and driving modern architectural practices.
- Agile Delivery: Serving as the delivery lead or scrum master for your team, coordinating sprint planning, and managing the release lifecycle.
- People Management: Conducting fortnightly 1:1s, managing performance reviews, setting objectives, and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment.
What Our Client Is Looking For
They are seeking a highly motivated self-starter who values user outcomes just as much as technical excellence.
Core Requirements:
- Team Leadership: Prior experience in a formal software team lead role, including direct line management (1:1s, performance reviews, and appraisals).
- Agile Methodology: A strong background leading effective agile/scrum teams and managing iterative software delivery cycles.
- Technical Expertise: 5+ years of professional software development experience utilizing a robust object-oriented language, ideally modern C# (or a strong Java/C++ background with a desire to work in.NET).
- Testing Advocacy: High confidence in automated testing practices—from unit tests to integration testing—with the ability to safely refactor existing codebases.
- Modern Engineering Tools: Experience utilizing or rolling out AI-assisted development tools within an engineering workflow to optimize team productivity.

Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with cross-platform UI frameworks (e.g., Avalonia, WPF/XAML) or cloud environments.
- Experience managing build configurations and continuous integration pipelines.
