Software Team Lead
Bristol (Hybrid, minimum 2 days in the office) Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
About the Opportunity
Join our client in shaping innovative assistive technology to empower people with disabilities who experience speech difficulties. As a Software Team Lead, you’ll guide a cross-functional team, shaping augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) solutions across Windows, iOS, and cloud-based platforms.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll balance leadership with direct technical contribution, ensuring solutions are high-quality, scalable, and user-focused. You’ll work closely with developers, designers, and real-world users to create products that meaningfully impact lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a talented team of Software Engineers and QA specialists, fostering a culture of excellence.
- Collaborate with product and technical leaders to shape roadmaps, priorities, and meaningful outcomes.
- Contribute directly to:
- Clean, maintainable C# (.NET 10) codebase.
- Scalable solutions across the full software lifecycle (design to deployment).
- Champion modern engineering practices, including:
- AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
- Agile delivery through collaborative planning and continuous improvement.
- Build a user-focused engineering culture by leveraging:
- Real user feedback, data, and needs.
- Solve complex, real-world engineering challenges where reliability, usability, and performance are critical, and decisions have direct impact on daily lives.

What You’ll Bring
Essential Experience
- Proven leadership experience in leading high-performing agile software teams.
- Strong background in C#, .NET, or similar languages (e.g., Java, C++).
- Demonstrated ability to deliver measurable user or business outcomes.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., AI pair programming, code reviewers, or performance optimisation).
- Deep understanding of:
- Software engineering best practices (design patterns, modularity, scalability).
- Testing strategies, code quality, and architecture development.
- Comfortable working across the stack (UI through backend systems).
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience in:
- Mentoring teams.
- Translating technical roadmaps for non-technical stakeholders.
Technical Proficiencies (Preferred areas we often engage with)
- Cloud products: Secure deployment, permissions, and resource management.
- Modern frameworks/tools:
- WPF / XAML, Avalonia, Entity Framework, SQL Server.
- Android (Kotlin/Java), JavaScript, and React.js.
- Build/deployment pipelines (e.g., TeamCity, Jenkins).
- AAC/assistive tech: Customer-led development with an eye on accessibility.
