Role Overview
Role: Software Test Engineer
Salary: £50,000-£60,000
Location: Hybrid (London - Average 2 days per week)
The Opportunity
Our client, an innovative technology business operating within the healthcare and life sciences sector, is looking for a Test Engineer to join its growing engineering team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a market-leading clinical imaging platform that supports global clinical trials and helps advance the development of treatments for neurological diseases. Working within an Agile environment, you'll play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability and continuous improvement of a complex software platform. From designing and executing test strategies to collaborating closely with Developers, Business Analysts and Scientists, you'll be involved throughout the entire software development lifecycle.
This role would suit someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, takes pride in delivering high-quality software and is keen to help shape testing processes within a collaborative engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
Test Design & Execution
- Design and execute exploratory, functional and regression testing across a range of software features
- Develop comprehensive test cases and scripts based on business requirements
- Analyse test results and accurately document defects and issues
Collaboration & Agile Delivery
- Work closely with Developers, Business Analysts and Scientists throughout the software development lifecycle
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement and feature discussions, providing testing expertise throughout
- Identify gaps within requirements and provide constructive feedback to improve software quality

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Support the ongoing improvement of testing processes and automation practices
- Contribute towards the development of efficient, scalable testing methodologies
- Champion best practices and promote a quality-first approach across the engineering team
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science or another relevant technical discipline (or equivalent commercial experience)
- Commercial experience designing and executing software tests
- Experience investigating, diagnosing and resolving software defects
- Experience creating exploratory test scenarios from business requirements
- Familiarity with Playwright for automated end-to-end and regression testing
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or similar
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
Desirable
- Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Bash, Python or Java
- Experience working within Linux environments
- Experience contributing to Agile software development teams
- Knowledge of clinical trial systems or medical imaging workflows
- Experience estimating testing effort and identifying delivery risks
