Contract Software Test Engineer - Medical Devices (V&V) | Manchester | Up to £425 per day (Outside IR35)
Our client is a fast-growing medical device company based in Manchester, currently taking a market-ready device through FDA 510(k) approval. Extra documentation and testing work has just landed on the team which is why they need a Software Test Engineer to own V&V, end to end.
The Role
You'll be the sole test engineer, working closely with the software, electronics and quality teams to verify and validate the device against its design requirements. Testing has recently shifted from black-box to module-level, so you'll need to understand the underlying embedded software, not just test around it. It's a standalone, self-directed role. You'll be trusted to get on with it, not spoon-fed tasks.

What You'll Be Doing
- Turning high-level design/test requirements into detailed test specifications and sub-tests
- Writing test protocols, executing them and documenting results
- Instrumenting and running unit / module / integration / regression tests against embedded software
- Feeding results back to the development team and driving issues to resolution
- Designing test plans in compliance with IEC 62304
What You'll Need
- Strong V&V experience in an embedded software environment
- Embedded software background (C/C++) - enough to define and run module-level tests
- Proven experience turning requirements into structured test cases and procedures
- Medical device experience with embedded software - IEC 62304 and ISO 13485 knowledge
- Scripting ability and a solid grasp of the full software engineering lifecycle
- Comfortable working independently as the sole test resource

Nice to Have
- Knowledge of IEC 60601 and/or ISO 14971
Contract Details
- Manchester - 3 days per week onsite
- 6 months initially
- Up to £425 per day, Outside IR35
