Software Testing Engineer
Integration & Systems Validation Engineer (ISV) – Weapon System Simulation and Experimentation (WSSE)
About the Role
Join our Integration and Systems Validation (ISV) team within the Weapon System Simulation and Experimentation (WSSE) department and drive innovation in digital simulation, experimentation, and real-world system validation.
This role offers exciting opportunities to shape highly-regarded weapon systems simulation at a critical point in the product lifecycle.
Key Information
Salary: Circa £42,000 – £50,000 doled out depending on experience.
Working: Dynamic (hybrid model) – 3-4 days per week on-site due to security requirements.
Eligibility: British citizenship or dual UK/British nationality with the right to reside.
Security Clearance: Mandatory HM Government (HMG) Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks post-offer.

Our WSSE department at MBDA specialises in integrating real products, synthetic environments, and stakeholder models throughout weapon system lifecycles. We develop real-time simulation components using agile methodologies to ensure capability, quality, and security.
Within WSSE, you'll join the Integration & Systems Validation (ISV) Team to deliver rigorous testing, assurance, and certification for advanced simulation systems.
Key Responsibilities
Test/Proving Planning
- Gauge customer requirements and functional expectations.
- Define software test bed requirements based on system design.
- Develop test plans, specifications, and design documentation.
Test/Proving Conduct
- Execute functional and regression testing throughout product development.
- Lead technical defect investigations with rigorous troubleshooting.
- Support external integration, trials, and demonstrations with engineering partners and customers.
- Analyse logs/data to validate compliance and identify problems.
- Conduct formal software qualification testing.
Test/Proving Reporting
- Provide stakeholder updates on software progress, faults, and compliance status.
- Create and submit comprehensive test and validation reports.
- Support software delivery and release processes, including final certification activities.
Technical Requirements
Technologies, Tools & Proficiencies:
- GitLab, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines.
- Python scripting and basic automation.
- IBM PLM/ALM/ETM/Doors/JIRA exposure.
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Software Simulation/Emulator systems (desirable).
- Excel (with Macros), MS Office.

What We're Looking For
Essential
- Experience in systems proving, including testing and V&V (Verification & Validation).
- Software testing expertise, with a focus on functional prowess.
- Python scripting and familiarity with level 1 or 2 automation.
- ISTQB certification or industry-recognised software testing credentials.
Desirable
- Understanding of Agile team collaboration mindsets and software development practices.
- Test automation capability.
- Exposure to CI/CD and Big Data diagnostics.
