### About the Role
This position combines office-based and site-based work, giving you hands-on experience in field surveys, data management, and technical reporting. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across Ground & Water, Nature Advisory, Landscape, Environmental Planning, and Sustainability teams, gaining a broad understanding of environmental disciplines.
Flexible working is central to this role, with opportunities for remote work, travel to project sites, and visits to WSP offices—Supported by experienced soil scientists and environmental specialists, you’ll develop both technical expertise and professional skills as you grow with us.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in soil surveys, Agricultural Land Classification (ALC) assessments, and soil resource evaluations, including fieldwork, sampling, and data collection.
- Supporting technical report preparation for planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and construction projects.
- Collecting, managing, and interpreting data on soil quality, land use, and environmental constraints.
- Liaising with clients and stakeholders under supervision.
- Participating in multidisciplinary projects alongside colleagues in Earth & Environment.
Your work will support landscapes, infrastructure, and sustainability goals, with a tangible impact on the communities we serve.

We’re looking for candidates who share our passion for soil science, environmental consulting, and sustainable development. To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
Essential Qualifications
- A degree in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Physical Geography, Geology, or a related discipline.
- Relevant work experience in soil science, environmental consultancy, land management, or agriculture (e.g., ALC consultancy, surveying, or environmental assessment).
- Strong fieldwork skills, including the ability to work outdoors in varied environments.
- A good understanding of UK environmental laws, including soil management within development contexts.
- Technical writing and report production skills.
- Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
- Ready to learn new skills and engage in professional training.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with GIS mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS) will be an advantage.
- Membership of or interest in joining a professional body, such as the British Society of Soil Science (BSSS).
- Basic knowledge of remote sensing or digital survey tools.
Travel Requirement: The role involves attending remote UK sites, so we ask that you have reliable transport access to cover these locations.
