Role: Insurance Lawyer – Property Risks & Coverage Team
Location: London, UK (Flexible Hybrid with a minimum of 1 day per week in-office)
About the Role
Keoghs LLP, a leading insurance law firm in the UK, seeks a talented insurance lawyer to join its dynamic Property Risks and Coverage Team. This opportunity offers flexibility with hybrid working arrangements while ensuring active collaboration in challenging, high-impact cases.
You will:
- Collaborate on large, complex cases, including product liability and insurance-covered claims (often exceeding £1M).
- Handle your own caseload under a Partner’s guidance while managing high-value litigation.
- Prepare and deliver training seminars/workshops for insurer clients, sharing expertise on complex legal issues.

Key Responsibilities
Case Management & Support

For cases under a Partner’s direction:
- Review documents, draft advice notes and coverage opinions.
- Conduct investigations into coverage, liability, quantum, and strategy.
- Support all phases of litigation, including drafting procedural applications and court documents.
- Engage in settlement negotiations, roundtable discussions, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
- Attend client meetings for note-taking and follow-ups.
- Ensure compliance with SRA standards and regulations.

For self-managed cases:
- Lead cases independently, from intake to resolution.
- Draft legal pleadings and attend hearings as primary advisor.
- Lead negotiations and interact with experts and third-party carriers.
Client & Business Development
- Contribute to external training programs (seminars, webinars, article writing).
- Support business development efforts, including client discussions and strategic pitches.
- Join discussions in Keoghs’ Product Liability Special Interest Group.

Working Hours
- Standard: 35 hours per week (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm), with 1 unpaid lunch hour.
- Additional flexibility as needed for client/court obligations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
✅ Legal Qualification: Qualified as a solicitor or barrister (FILEX) in the UK. ✅ Expertise: Defendant-side product liability insurance litigation (specialist knowledge of coverage disputes, liability risks, and quantum valuation). ✅ Core Law Areas:
- Product liability (Goods Injury Regulation, CPRA, Breach of Contract)
- Negligence claims
- Insurance coverage (CILA, Fronting, Endorsements)
- Procedural Google Phase instructions & Pre-Action Protocols ✅ Organization & Focus:
- Time management (meet chargeable hour targets).
- Ability to grade risk proactively, anticipate client concerns, and drive case progression. ✅ Technical:
- Confident with case management systems (e.g., Keoghs’ CaseVision).
Desirable (Preferred)
🔹 Client Relations: Experience handling high-profile, difficult clients with diplomacy and negotiation. 🔹 Revenue Generation:
- Skills in hunting new business or cultivating existing insurer accounts.
- Willingness to help generate work internally (case referrals). 🔹 Team Leadership: Ability to supervise junior lawyers/junior claims handlers, effectively delegate, and set priorities. 🔹 BD Initiative: Interest in engaging in insurer outreach programs and representing Keoghs at conferences.
Non-Negotiable Soft Skills
- Clear Prioritisation: Strict ability to juggle urgent uncontested matters alongside high-risk complications.
- Precision: Spot and avoid technical hidden risks or procedural pitfalls.
- Communication:
- External: Present legal complexity clearly to senior claims managers, underwriters, and other insurers.
- Internal: Support Partner/collaborative note-taking and relationship-building within Keoghs’ team.
