We are seeking a motivated and passionate Solicitor to join the Adult Social Care Team, playing a critical role in safeguarding and supporting vulnerable adults in Stoke-on-Trent.
This has a highly rewarding career opportunity for a solicitor—whether you have specific experience in social care law or are looking to develop your expertise in this area. The role involves:
- Advising and representing the Local Authority in:
- Safeguarding cases
- Mental Capacity decisions
- Proceedings in the Court of Protection
- Deferred Payment Agreements
- Deprivation of Liberty applications
- Judicial Reviews
- Guiding the authority through complex legal matters while ensuring the best interests of vulnerable individuals are upheld.

Key Responsibilities
Your role will include, but not be limited to:
- Managing a significant caseload, including complex cases, across the specialist area of Adult Social Care.
- Providing specialist, timely legal advice on adult care matters.
- Undertaking advocacy in all appropriate courts, including the Court of Protection.
- Delivering training sessions to internal teams on relevant laws and procedures.
- Offering support to other areas within the Social Care Legal Team as required.
- Ensuring high-quality legal representation and defending the Local Authority’s position in litigation.
About You: What We’re Looking For
We are searching for a candidate who possesses:
- A qualified Solicitor status.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
- A genuine passion for social care law and public service.
- Ability to efficiently manage caseloads.
- Experience working both independently and collaboratively.
- A capacity to balance multiple competing demands.
While relevant experience is desirable, we welcome applications from individuals with diverse legal backgrounds who are eager to learn and develop in this specialist field. Training and support will be provided.
